The final step in President 's efforts to forgive thousands in student loans for most borrowers will hang in the balance as the hears arguments on Tuesday.Following a series of legal challenges, including from six states, the nine justices will hear arguments for Biden's plan to eliminate up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt, which could cost taxpayers as much as $400 billion. The plan, which Biden announced in August, would forgive $10,000 in student loans for individuals making less than $125,000 and married couples making less than $250,000 jointly. That forgiveness would go up to $20,000 if the borrower received a Pell grant, which aids students from low-income families.
