For 40 years, Charles 'Teenie' Harris captured some of the most important events in the civil rights movement - along with intimate images of everyday life. His archive of more than 70,000 photos forms an unparalleled record of black culture in the 20th century, from the musical theaters to the streets of Pittsburgh, between 1935 and 1975. Harris, who died in June 1998 at the age of 90, was a photographer for the Pittsburgh Courier - one of the most influential black newspapers of its day.
