Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai has claimed the international concern around her safety and well-being is based on 'an enormous misunderstanding' in her first interview with an independent publication since she vanished from view last year.Peng has been the subject of frenzied discussion around the world following a social media post in November in which she wrote that Zhang Gaoli, the former vice premier, had forced her to have sex. That message quickly disappeared and Peng has only been seen subsequently on occasions closely managed by the Chinese government, heightening concern around her safety. Now, in her first interview beyond state media, she has reiterated that there was no sexual assault.
