A mummified 'mermaid' that's worshipped in has been exposed as nothing more than a fabrication of cloth, paper, and cotton decorated with fish parts.The creature was allegedly caught in the Pacific Ocean, off the Japanese island of Shikoku, between 1736 and 1741, and is now kept in a temple in the city of Asakuchi.Legend says it has the power to grant immortality, and during the pandemic it was worshipped in a bid to ward off the virus.
