A US Food and Drug Administration panel of experts has backed providing a third dose of Moderna Inc’s COVID-19 vaccine to older people and those at risk of severe illness from the virus, as the Biden administration ramps up efforts to get more Americans vaccinated. The FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted unanimously to recommend the booster shot on Thursday and will mull approving an additional dose of the Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine on Friday. The 19-member panel’s recommendation paves the way for the FDA itself to grant emergency authorisation for the Moderna booster shot.
