US Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin said she felt weary but relieved to complete her first race of the 2022 Winter Games, placing ninth in the Super-G after suffering back-to-back disqualifications this week. Shiffrin, 26, a two-time Olympic alpine gold medalist, crossed the finish line on Friday with 0.79 seconds off the winner, Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami. Considered one of 's top medal contenders, Shiffrin had been disqualified twice for early mistakes in the giant slalom on Monday and slalom on Wednesday — events she won at the 2014 and 2018 Games, respectively.
