US forces have killed two top Islamic State (IS) leaders in an airstrike in northern Syria, according to two defence officials, one day after a US raid killed an IS smuggler.The strike on Thursday killed Abu 'Ala, one of the top five IS leaders and the deputy leader of IS in Syria, as well as Abu Mu'Ad al-Qahtani, an IS official responsible for prisoner affairs, the officials said.No US forces were injured or killed during the operation, and there was no damage or loss to US equipment because of the strike.
