US warns of one of the biggest refugee crises if Russia invade Ukraine

The U.S. has warned that a Russian invasion of eastern could displace up to five million people, triggering one of the world's largest refugee crises.

A state of emergency was declared by the Ukrainian government and approved by parliament as 200,000 military reservists were called up, border zones were restricted and three million Ukrainians were told to leave .

The whole country was placed on a war footing with Kiev acknowledging for the first time that an attack could now take place anywhere, at any time.
