The three main stock exchanges in the United States all plummeted on Monday - with the S&P 500 officially entering bear market territory amid deepening concern that the country could soon be entering a recession.The S&P 500 sank 3.9%, bringing it more than 20% below the record high it set in January and erasing all of the market gains experienced since President Joe Biden entered office in January 2021. The Dow Jones index sank a stunning 900 points on Monday as well. The declines hit high-growth technology stocks and other recent market darlings especially hard: Tesla slumped 7.1%, Amazon dropped 5.5% and GameStop tumbled 8.4%.
