has become the first state to criminalize the use of puberty blockers and hormones to treat people under age 19.The new law, which will take effect on May 8 unless blocked by the court, will make it a felony for a doctor to prescribe puberty blockers or hormones to aid anyone under the age of 19 who is in transition. Violations will be punishable by up to 10 years in prison. It also prohibits gender transition surgeries, although doctors told lawmakers those are not performed on minors in Alabama.
