President Biden confirmed Friday that US Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is his nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, effective later this year. The 51-year-old Jackson was confirmed by the Senate in June as a judge on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals and would be the first black woman to sit on the Supreme Court if confirmed. Jackson’s nomination comes after the White House held weeks of interviews following Breyer’s retirement announcement in January, with Biden vowing to announce his choice by the end of this month.
