In the field of American football, there has never been and may never be a greater quarterback than Tom Brady – who announced his retirement at age 44 after more than two decades as a professional in the sport.
The superlatives of his career are unmatched; seven Super Bowl victories, five Super Bowl Most Valuable Player awards and three National Football League MVP awards. Now, after his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a division title this season but narrowly missing another trip to the Super Bowl, Brady announced his retirement on Instagram.
“This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,” Brady wrote in a lengthy post. “I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”
