Attorney General Merrick Garland said his Justice Department is not 'avoiding cases' because they are political and called the investigation into 's supporters storming the on Jan. 6th 'the most urgent' they are pursuing.
'We are not avoiding cases that are political or cases that are controversial or sensitive,' Garland said in an interview with . 'What we are avoiding is making decisions on a political basis, on a partisan basis.'
In the wide ranging interview, he also addressed the rise in hate crimes and how the ruling on the Voting Right Act has hurt the Justice Department's efforts to prosecute voting issues.
