A controversial start-up's plan to lay off half its 8,000 staff was exposed when bosses accidentally added a 'severance' tab to doomed workers' computer browsers, and paid them their farewell cash.
Better.com, which arranges mortgages online, was said to be planning the layoff - which equates to half its workforce - on Wednesday, three months after its motormouth CEO fired 900 workers over Zoom, then branded staff lazy thieves.
But they were ultimately announced Tuesday after a highly-embarrassing blunder which saw the severance tab pop up in workers' internet browsers, then disappear, with some even paid the 60 days wages they're in line to receive after their firing.
