President on Thursday demanded the immediate release of Mohamed Bazoum after the Nigerian president and his family were taken hostage in the wake of being ousted from power in last week's military junta.'The Nigerien people have the right to choose their leaders. They have expressed their will through free and fair elections—and that must be respected,' Biden said in a statement. 'I call for President Bazoum and his family to be immediately released, and for the preservation of Niger's hard-earned democracy.'The president didn't answer shouted questions from reporters about Niger when he went biking during his Rehoboth Beach vacation on Thursday. Bazoum is under house arrest.
