Ash Barty's coach has made a shocking claim she won't be able to capture the elusive US Open because of the type of balls American organisers force female competitors to use.
The 25-year-old world No.1 showed too much class for Danielle Collins at Park's Rod Laver Arena, winning 6-3 7-6 - her first title and third grand slam overall.
Barty's confidant Craig Tyzzer, who has helped mastermind her rise to the top since 2014, said the lighter, less fuzzy balls women use at Flushing Meadows proved fatal to her hopes of completing the career grand slam.
