Rob Hale, co-owner of the , showed up at the graduation ceremony of 2,500 students at UMass Boston to surprise them with $1,000 each, moments before they crossed the stage. Hale, who holds a $5billion net worth, spoke at the university's 55th commencement ceremony on Thursday before giving out the cash, which he split into two envelopes so students can keep $500 and donate the other half.'These are turbulent times. You guys have survived. You have prospered. You are to be celebrated,' said the 55-year-old, who's also the cofounder, president and CEO of Granite Telecommunications.
