Toilet water flushed in can now be treated and converted into drinking water for use in homes, schools and businesses as the state deals with water shortages. In an effort dubbed 'toilet-to-tap,' California officials approved new regulations allowing water agencies to recycle sewage waste from showers and toilets to provide drinking water.Suppliers are now allowed, though not required, to purify wastewater and put it back into the drinking water system for hundreds of thousands of households.
