A California Highway Patrol officer was shot while investigating an accident on a San Diego freeway Wednesday evening, a report said.
The unidentified eight-year CHP veteran had responded to a collision on I-8 around 6:15 p.m. when he became “involved in a struggle with a pedestrian resulting in a single gunshot,” CPH Captain Michael Harris said at a press conference streamed by KGTV.
The officer was shot in his right thigh and was in serious but stable condition, officials said.
