Carbon emissions hit an all-time high last year as construction rebounded from the Covid-induced lockdowns - putting efforts to decarbonize by 2050 at risk, according to a new report. Despite an increased emphasis on energy efficiency and using less energy in the building process, consumption and CO2 emissions have fully rebounded from the pandemic lull. The building and construction sector accounted for 37 percent of energy and process-related carbon emissions in 2021 worldwide, the UN's Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction .
