The number of chest reconstruction surgeries being performed on trans children has rocketed nearly five-fold in recent years, a study has found.Researchers from Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, , found there were 489 'top surgeries' performed among those aged 17 or younger in 2019.This was up from only 100 in 2016, marking a 389 per cent rise in three years. The average age of patients who received surgery was 17, but 5.5 per cent were under 14.
