Christian devotees were nailed to crosses and left covered in blood after self-flagellation during a re-enactment of Jesus Christ's crucifixion to mark Good Friday.
Swathes of Filipinos and foreign tourists flocked to the northern village of San Pedro Cutud in the Philippines to witness Ruben Enaje, 64, and two other devotees be nailed to wooden crosses. This is the 36th time Enaje has participated in the re-enactment.
Actors donning Roman soldier costumes hammered the carpenter's palms with two-inch nails and ropes and fabric supported their bodies as they were raised on the crosses.
