New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker on Tuesday called for home-state Sen. Bob Menendez to resign, joining a chorus of a dozen senators calling for their colleague to go after an indictment accused him of accepting bribes and taking payment in gold bars. Booker, the state's junior senator, joins New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy in calling for Menendez to resign, a day after Menendez gave a defiant press conference from Union City, New Jersey. Menendez said he stashed hundreds of thousands in cash in his home as a response to confiscatory policies of communist , while blasting prosecutors and claiming he was the victim of discrimination.'Sen. Menendez fiercely asserts his innocence and it is therefore understandable that he believes stepping down is patently unfair,' Booker said in a statement. 'But I believe this is a mistake. I believe stepping down is best for those Sen. Menendez has spent his life serving,' he said.
