Police in are investigating a deadly crash involving state Minority Leader Janet Bewley that left a mother and her five-year-old daughter dead a day after the Democratic lawmaker allegedly underwent eye surgery. Bewley, 70, was not injured in the July 22 crash that has drawn national attention after preliminary reports showed she pulled out in front of another vehicle. She was not taken into custody and charges have not been filed. Police Chief Bill Hagstrom stressed to on Wednesday that Bewley is not getting preferential treatment. He says investigators are waiting for State Patrol reconstruction reports before the case is passed on to Ashland County District Attorney David Meany, who will ultimately determine whether or not charges would be filed.
