A South Carolina man who’s spent more than two decades on death row for murdering his parents with a claw hammer and baseball bat is begging the court to let him die - but his lawyer wants more delays, more hearings, and a mental health evaluation.
James ‘Jimmy’ Robertson, 51, has been on death row since 1999, when a York County jury sentenced him to die for the brutal 1997 killings of his parents, Earl and Terry Robertson, at their Rock Hill home.
Prosecutors say Robertson, once an Eagle Scout and Georgia Tech student, bludgeoned his parents to death in a cold-blooded attempt to cash in on more than $2 million in inheritance and insurance money.
