But such a revelation has the mild-mannered 74-year-old celebrity gardener proven in - where his show has become a smash hit - that the Hermit Kingdom's state media censors felt the need to blur his blue jeans for fear they looked 'too Western'.

Titchmarsh he was 'flattered' that his choice of workwear was 'regarded as subversive', adding: 'I'd never thought of myself as someone who was likely to lead the youth of astray.'
