Director Martin Scorsese meets with Pope Francis at The Vatican

has had a private audience with , ahead of making his new screenplay about Jesus, which is expected to begin filming later this year.

The renowned director, 81, met with the Pope on Wednesday although it is not yet clear what the pair discussed.

The film will be an adaption of the book 'A Life of Jesus' by Shūsaku Endō written in 1966 and will be much shorter than his other films, with a running time of around 80 minutes.
