U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Thursday the formation of a critical incident review team to examine law enforcement's response to the Uvalde school shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers.
The review, which came at the behest of the mayor of Uvalde, will not be a criminal investigation but will look into the failures of local law enforcement who waited an hour to enter the Robb Elementary School following the massacre.
‘There is nothing we can do to undo the pain born from the survivors, the families of the victims, the community and the country, Garland said. 'But the independence and transparency of the Justice Department can go a long way toward accessing what happened in Uvalde towards law enforcement response and to give guidance for the future.'
