Dominican Republic jail riot leaves one prisoner dead, six injured

At least one prisoner was killed and six others were injured after inmates rioted over alleged mistreatment at a jail in the eastern Dominican Republic city of Higuey on Monday.

Agustín Fernández suffered a gunshot wound during the uprising at the Anamuya Correction and Rehabilitation Penitentiary, and was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Wander Baéz and Robinsón Martínez were among the six prisoners who suffered injuries and were treated at the same medical facility.
