Former safety and special teams captain Chris Maragos has been awarded $43.5 million after suing the medical team that allegedly mistreated his injured knee, resulting in the end of his football career.'On Sunday, my team played the (sic), and I could only watch and wonder whether I could have been out there with them had I received proper medical care,' the 36-year-old said in a statement on Monday, following the Eagles' 38-35 loss to the City Chiefs on Sunday. 'While I live in constant pain and will never get back on the field, I hope this decision sends a message to teams' medical staffs that players are people, not just contracts.'Maragos sued orthopedic surgeon James Bradley and Rothman Orthopaedics for allegedly neglecting to treat a torn meniscus he suffered, resulting in the premature end of his NFL career, as well as lingering pain and other physical issues.
