The cries of terror are faint at first. Then slowly they grow. From a small rectangular hole that was once the ground floor window of a family home, a small child emerges, his face contorted with fear.He is being pulled to safety by a neighbour, on to whom he clings for dear life. The two begin to wade through the dank, brown water towards some kind of safety.This is the city of Kherson, southern Ukraine, large parts of which are underwater after Wednesday’s explosion, which destroyed the Kakhovka Dam, controlled by Russia since early last year, flooding more than 40 towns and villages.
