Two former police chiefs in and are among five people who have been charged with conspiracy to illegally buy and sell machine guns and other regulated firearms.Matthew Jeremy Hall, 53, and James Sawyer, 50, who were Chiefs of Police in Coats, North Carolina and Ray, North Dakota respectively, are facing up to five years in jail over the federal charges.They have been accused of obtaining the weapons, which included restricted short-barreled rifles, by falsely claiming they would be used in demos to their respective police forces over a two year period starting in June 2018.
