A new feature of the Google-owned Fitbit has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration () to monitor heart rhythms and identify atrial fibrillation (AFib).
AFib is a type of irregular heart rhythm, it can be hard to detect due to a lack of visible and obvious symptoms, and later detection can increase stroke risk.
said its AFib algorithm, available within the Fitbit app, assesses users' heart rhythms while they are sleeping, and alerts them if they suffer from AFib.
