The Federal Trade Commission is suing Amazon.com Inc., claiming the company makes it deliberately difficult for Americans to unsubscribe from a Prime membership. The agency alleges in a federal suit filed Wednesday in that the retail giant dupes customers into signing up for its $139-a-year Prime membership, then when they wanted to unsubscribe, they would have to click through multiple pages in a process known internally at the company as 'The Iliad' after Homer's epic poem.FTC officials have previously gone after other companies for their difficult subscription cancelation processes, andthat would require companies to make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up for one.
