Millions of Americans aged between 43 and 58 are headed for a miserable retirement, experts say as they have just $40,000 saved per household.Generation X - long considered the 'Forgotten Generation' - are falling well short of the recommended amount needed for a comfortable retirement. As a rule of thumb, workers should have three times their annual salary saved up by the time they're 40.But the typical Gen X household has just a fraction of this in their pots - while almost half do not have an employer-sponsored retirement plan at all, according to findings from the (NIRS).
