H&R Block marketed its tax preparation services as free, but deleted customer data as a way to pressure them into spending more, a consumer watchdog has alleged. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused the company of 'coercing' taxpayers into higher-cost products made for more complicated tax filings which they did not need. If they wanted to downgrade, they would be presented with an 'obstacle course' of challenges, the complaint alleges.
