House Republicans failed to advance a spending bill one day after Speaker Mike Johnson notched a win on a stopgap funding plan to avoid a government shutdown. The rule to advance the Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill as well as Iranian sanction legislation failed after 19 Republicans voted against it. The group mostly consisted of hardline Republicans, along with four moderates from New York. The rule failed 198-225 vote, blocking the chamber from considering the measures.
