The last remaining memorial to the Tiananmen Square massacre in Hong Kong was covered up on Saturday.
The memorial — calligraphy painted on the roadway — commemorated the hundreds or thousands of protesters who were killed by the Chinese government in 1989, according to the BBC.
University of Hong Kong workers covered the calligraphy with yellow and black striped metal safety plates, and claimed the action was regular maintenance, the outlet reported.
