Five days from a government shutdown, and the remain at an impasse over how to move forward on the second half of federal spending for fiscal year 2024. The hangup is over the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) portion of a package that would fund six agencies of government. Republicans had wanted to write a full year continuing resolution, or CR, for DHS, continuing funding for the agency at 2023 levels. But the White House and say that funding is not sufficient and want more leeway to spend funds as they see fit.
