After a fatal shooting at a gas station in Hammond, , sparked outrage, city officials are looking to close service centers overnight to help curb violence. In late June, a 33-year-old man was shot dead at a Luke's Gas Station on Stateline Avenue in Hammond. That now has city leaders considering a new law that would force the stations to shutter between midnight and 5am every day. The move comes as Hammond has seen a spike in violent cases - going from 315 a year to 590 a year - and some have blamed spillover from Chicago - which is about 20 miles away.
