Nestled among the Welsh Moelwynion mountains, and once the heart of a booming slate-mining industry, is the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. These days the stark beauty of this part of the Snowdonia National Park draws adventurous souls set on climbing the rolling peaks.And on a sweltering summer’s day, it brings me on my own adventure.But I’m not here to summit the Welsh peaks. I’ve been charged with clambering down into the belly of the mountain, and forgoing the sunshine to spend the night in the depths of an abandoned Victorian slate mine.
