The taxman is waiving nearly $1 billion in penalty fees for Americans who have not paid taxes for 2020 and 2021. From this week around 4.6 million people, businesses and tax-exempt organizations - most making under $400,000 per year - will be eligible for the relief, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said. They must owe less than $100,000 in tax for 2020 and 2021. Americans must still pay the tax they owe - but they will not have to also pay the stiff fines for late payment, which tun into thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.
