Firebrand Rep. Jim Jordan has won a vote to be the nominee for speaker after No. 2 Republican Steve Scalise's candidacy fell apart. Jordan beat out Rep. Austin Scott, a rank-and-file Republican from who's grown frustrated with the right wing of the conference, in a 124 to 81 vote. Scalise dropped out after it was clear he had at least a dozen hardline detractors. With only four votes to lose, Scalise's path to the job was nearly impossible.
