A handful of disgruntled Republicans, stead putting forward Kevin McCarthy, Whip Tom Emmer, Byron Donalds - and even former Speaker John Boehner - as chaos broke out on the floor. Firebrand Republican Jordan could only afford to lose four votes on the floor with the 's narrow majority. The House has been since former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted by eight of his hard-line Republican colleagues. McCarthy - whose confirmation went five days and 15 rounds long in January - actually received more support from holdouts during the subsequent rounds of voting in contrast to Jordan, who started bleeding former backers during the second vote.
