Famed American author Jon Steinbeck's Hamptons compound has sold to a local nonprofit for $13.5million, about $3million less than the number for which it was originally listed.Heirs of Steinbeck's listed the house in 2021 for $16.75million, the first time the property had been on the market in 60 years. The Long Island home is where Steinbeck wrote 'The Winter of Our Discontent' and 'Travels with Charley.'When the late author's former part-time residence hit the market, local preservationists saw it as an opportunity to establish an artists' retreat.
