GOP hardliners are not pleased with a $1.6 trillion deal scored over the weekend by House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer - setting up a showdown with only 12 days left until the government runs out of funding. House and negotiators reached a topline deal that will keep spending at $1.6 trillion for fiscal year 2024, the exact amount agreed to under the debt limit deal by former Speaker .The deal will include $886.3 billion for defense spending and $772.7 billion for non-defense programs.
