A lawyer representing one of three Tacoma police officers accused of killing black man Manuel Ellis in March 2020 says that the victim 'created his own death' during the altercation. '[The officers] were trying to defuse the situation in the beginning, and it spun out of control. This is a situation where [Ellis] created his own death. It was his behavior that forced the officers to use force against him,' lawyer Wayne Fricke said.Ellis was addicted to methamphetamine, and it caused him to be violent, unpredictable, and paranoid, said Fricke, who represents Tacoma police Officer Christopher Burbank.
