A man was arrested and charged with allegedly threatening to bomb the headquarters of famous dictionary publishers Merriam Webster over their definitions of various gendered words.
Jeremy David Hanson, 34, of Rossmoor, California, faces a federal charge of interstate communication of threats to commit violence. He could face up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
In October 2021, Hanson is alleged to have sent threatening messages to the Massachusetts-based Merriam Webster headquarters over specific identity definitions through the site's 'Contact Us' page, as well as in the comment sections for various words.
