McCarthy slams ‘frustrating’ Cawthorn, says rep walked back coke-and-orgy claims

Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) admitted Wednesday that his House Republican colleagues aren’t doing cocaine and throwing orgies, as he alleged during a recent podcast interview, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters.

Cawthorn met with McCarthy (R-Calif.) and said some of his remarks were untrue or “exaggerated,” the Republican leader told reporters in a Capitol hallway after he sat down with the 26-year-old legislator.

“In the interview, he claims he watched people do cocaine,” McCarthy told a group of reporters, Axios reported. “Then when he comes in, he tells me, he says he thinks he saw maybe a staffer in a parking garage from 100 yards away.”
