A church memorial stone honouring the owner of a Jamaican slave plantation is set to be torn down following a campaign by an anti-racism group.Dr John Gordon, who died in 1774, is memorialised on a stone plaque in St Peter's Church in Dorchester, Dorset. The 250-year-old tribute sparked outcry in 2020 - at the height of the movement - when activism group Stand Up To Racism Dorset claimed text engraved on the plaque was 'morally wrong' and commemorated 'slavery, racism and murder.'
